This one day course is designed for workers who are required to enter and/or monitor entry into restricted spaces and confined spaces.
Course Objectives:
- Identify minimum legislated standards.
- Provide basic information in relation to the identification and classification of restricted/confined spaces, including their associated risks.
- Explain requirements for working in or around restricted/confined spaces.
- Offer recommendations and provide resource information regarding the methods used to control associated hazards.
- Provide information relevant to worker entry and monitoring worker entry
Pre-requisites:
- WHMIS training is recommended.
Course Content:
- Legislated definitions of terms associated with restricted/confined space work and Codes of Practice (COP’s).
- Hazard identification and assessment procedures, e.g., atmospheres which are oxygen-deficient, flammable, or toxic.
- Confined space entry preparation – plans, permits, signage, entry logs.
- Hazard controls:
- Engineering (ventilation, isolation)
- Administrative (atmospheric testing, training, entry plans)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) respirator, harness
- Roles and Responsibilities of workers, management, supervisors, confined space entry/monitors
- Emergency Response requirements
- Restricted/confined space planning requirements
- Review/Discussion about the three (3) levels of confined spaces
- Level 1 High Danger
- Level 2 Medium Danger
- Level 3 Low Danger
Certification:
This course has a written open book exam component for which participants must achieve a minimum score of 70% for course certification. Confined Space Entry/Monitor certification will be issued on the successful completion of classroom training and testing. Re-certification is required every three (3) years.
